You're Probably Far More Creative Than You Realize

Have We Been Lied to
About Creativity?

Sometimes it feels like our institutions are designed to beat us down, smash us into little boxes, and keep us from seeing everything that's there.

But you can see the world with fresh eyes, like a child - with open-mindedness and freedom, and no one can stop you.

Let me introduce you to Abraham Maslow, if you’re not already familiar - Maslow studied how people grow and reach their full potential.

He viewed creativity as Self-Actualization - the process of becoming your best self.

According to Maslow, there are two types of creativity.

  • Special Talent Creativity - being good at art or music
  • Self-Actualizing Creativity - the kind we use to solve daily problems and make our lives better

Self-Actualized, creative individuals, share traits like

  • Spontaneity
  • Acceptance of self and others
  • Problem-centering rather than self-centering
  • Openness to new experiences.

Maslow believed creativity was so important that he put it at the highest level of his famous pyramid of human needs.

"Being creative isn't just about painting or making music. Everyone has natural creative abilities."

Meet Becky, a stay-at-home suburban mom.

Everyday

She comes up with new solutions to keep her household running smoothly while she cares for her 3 kids.

Each kid requires a unique approach.

As a mom, she needs to wear many hats

  • Teach her children
  • Keep them safe
  • Create daily routines
  • Give emotional support
  • Countless other tasks

ALL of these challenges require Creative Thinking.

Instead of thinking that only special "geniuses" can be creative, think of life as a constant state of creativity.

There's the free-flowing, emotional side where we create from our feelings.

And there's the structured, logical side where we create with purpose and planning.

Both sides work together.

Isn't that beautiful?

And it's so intuitive and obvious when you put it like that.

Creativity Is About Expressing One's Full Potential.

All too often I hear people say, "I wish I was creative" - when they already are!

Look at your life

Every time you solve a problem - you're being creative!

With Love

Jason
